Getting snow cleared

How does SnowCrew work?

Post what needs clearing and what you’ll pay. A shoveler nearby books it, takes a “before” photo, clears the snow and takes an “after” photo. You check the photos and approve the job, and then they get paid.

What does it cost?

You choose the price, and 100% of it goes to the shoveler. On top of that there’s a 15% service fee, shown before you pay. Tips are optional, and 100% of a tip goes to the shoveler too.

When is my card charged?

When you post, we place a hold on your card for the total. You’re only charged when a shoveler books the job. If nobody books it, the hold is released.

Can I schedule a job for later?

Yes. When you post, pick “As soon as possible” or a time it needs to be done by, up to 5 days ahead (for example “Tomorrow by 7 AM”). If nobody books it before then, it’s cancelled and the hold is released.

Can I cancel?

Cancelling before a shoveler books is always free. After they book, it’s free for the first 5 minutes, and free if they’re late. Otherwise there’s a $10 cancellation fee, which goes to the shoveler for their time, and you get the rest back. Once the work has started, the job can’t be cancelled.

What if my shoveler doesn’t show up?

Shovelers have 2 hours to start an as-soon-as-possible job, or until your deadline for a scheduled one. If they’re late, we tell you, and you can cancel for free. Half an hour after that, the job goes back to other shovelers, or, if your deadline has passed, it’s cancelled and you get a full refund.

What if something isn’t finished?

Before you approve, tap “Something’s not finished” and say what still needs doing. The shoveler has to fix it and take a new “after” photo. If you don’t respond within 3 days of the job being marked finished, it’s approved automatically.

What’s the salt option?

Pick “Salt / ice melt” and the shoveler brings salt and spreads it. We add $10 to the suggested price to cover it.

How do promo codes work?

Tap “Have a promo code?” on the Post screen. Codes take money off the service fee; the shoveler’s pay never changes.

Who can see my address?

Before a job is booked, other people only see your street name and a rough area on the map. The exact address is shared with the shoveler who books it.

Are shovelers background-checked or insured?

No. Shovelers are independent people from your area, a lot like hiring a neighbor. Stripe checks some identity details before paying them, but that isn’t a background check, and SnowCrew doesn’t provide insurance. Ratings, required photos and your approval help you know the work was done. See the Terms of Service for details.

Shoveling for money

Who can shovel on SnowCrew?

Anyone in the US who is 16 or older. If you’re under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and Stripe (our payment partner) asks for their details when you set up payouts.

How do I get paid?

Set up payouts in the Account tab; it takes about 2 minutes with Stripe. You keep 100% of the job price and any tips. You’re paid when the customer approves the job (or automatically 3 days after you mark it finished), and Stripe sends the money to your bank.

Does SnowCrew take a cut of my pay?

No. The customer pays the service fee on top of the price, so what you see is what you earn.

How many jobs can I take at once?

Up to 3 that are booked or in progress. Finish one to book another.

What if I can’t make it?

Back out in the app as soon as you know, so someone else can take the job. Only book an as-soon-as-possible job if you can start within 2 hours, and start scheduled jobs before their deadline. If you don’t start in time, it counts as a missed job, and 2 missed jobs in 30 days pause booking for 2 weeks.

What if the job is bigger than described?

Message the customer in the job’s chat. They can add a tip afterwards. If you can’t agree, you can back out before you start.

Why do I need to take photos?

A “before” photo when you arrive and an “after” photo when you finish show the customer the work was done, and they protect you if there’s a disagreement. Photos have to be taken with the camera, not picked from your library.

What equipment do I need?

Bring your own shovel or snow blower, and salt if the job includes salt. Never climb onto roofs, and stop if it isn’t safe.

How do ratings work?

After each job, the customer rates you and you rate them, from 1 to 5 stars. Everyone can see the averages; only the two of you see the comments.

Safety

How do I report someone?

On the job, scroll down and tap Report, or tap the ••• button at the top of your chat with them. Tell us what happened, and we’ll look into it within 24 hours. We won’t tell them you reported them.

What does blocking do?

You won’t see each other’s open jobs or be able to book them, and you can’t message each other. If they booked your job and haven’t started, it’s cancelled with the usual cancellation rules (if you booked theirs, it’s like backing out). A job that’s already underway carries on. You can unblock people in the Account tab.

Your account

How do I change which notifications I get?

In the Account tab, under Notifications, you can turn job updates, messages and new-job alerts on or off.

How do I delete my account?

Tap Delete account at the bottom of the Account tab. Finish or cancel any jobs first.

Deleting your account

In the app, open the Account tab and tap Delete account at the bottom. Finish or cancel any jobs first. If you can’t get into the app, email help@blockcrew.us from the email address on your account and we’ll delete it for you. See the Privacy Policy for what’s deleted and what we have to keep.
